Bible Month – June 2026 Explore Philippians Together

Hello everyone,

We’ve come to the end of Bible Month, when we’ve been thinking about Paul’s letter to the people of Philippi. How have you found it? For me, it’s been an interesting journey, a journey where Paul has invited us to trust in God in the midst of our everyday challenges. He knew all about that, of course, as he wrote his letter from a cold, dark prison cell.

In chapter 4 he draws everything back to what really matters: that life is not held together by us having complete control over everything that we say and do, but by learning to trust in the grace and strength of Christ. Paul writes from prison, but still he looks beyond himself and is more concerned about others. He says, “Do not be anxious about anything” (v.6). If we read beneath the words, we might see them as an invitation to bring everything into prayer – all that we are, honestly and openly. And in doing so, God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds – watching over us, caring for us, nurturing us from the inside out.

We are called to re-tune our thoughts to what is true and good and life-giving, until it shapes the way that we live every day.

At the heart of it is the discovery for Paul that he could “do all things through Christ who strengthens him.” Perhaps there is a lesson for us here: instead of being defined by anxiety or circumstance, we might learn – and of course it takes a whole lifetime to do so, and is easier said than done – to live a life of prayer, to pay attention to our world, to care for one another, and to trust that Christ is enough to carry us through whatever comes.

Love and best wishes,

Darren
